MTV Roadies has just finished with 8 amazing seasons yesterday. In my opinion, it has emerged as an extremely strong youth platform. Students starting as small as class5 follow Roadies; in fact I would reframe my sentence to state - Roadies has visibility from the entire Indian Facebook audience and that is a massive thing to state! The same would hold true only of the biggest brands and celebs who’ve managed to reach the same after years but MTV Roadies is here in 8years.
The success has also made Roadies a big marketing platform that brands can utilize to gain visibility with the Indian youth. Few have done that already – Dell, Yahoo, Woodland, Lava, Hero Honda etc. But there is scope for more. So enclosed below are some brands i think should definitely be part of the Roadies platform in one way or the other:
Each and every person on Roadies, starting from - Runvijay to Raghu to Rajiv to contestants – all wear sunglasses ALL THE TIME. [See picture below as a sample] Some contestants wear shades even indoors! So why not be a part of this show!
Above pic is proof that wherever a roadie goes, his shades follow! |
Tires and fuel are non-cool categories and marketing and promotion of such categories is quite tuff. But Roadies is a show that’s just perfect for these companies to leverage.
It’s a great show for these apparel brands to stand out amongst the plethora of brands in the same category.
· Insurance companies
Insurance again is a dull category. Maybe these companies could get the Roadies who are about to embark on their remarkable experience to sign out life insurance policies right at the start line to show them as responsible teens and a responsible company [MTV]
· Companies like Sony and Phillips offering MP3 players
MP3 players are a totally stale category and it’s the Apple shuffle/ nano/ touch etc. that are ruling the game here. By being a part of the show, these brands could attempt to reignite consumer interest in them.
There would be several other companies, but those are ones that come to mind immediately. I’d love to hear from you guys on other brands that could be a part of the show. The end objective here is to gain visibility from the young audience, try to attach a ‘cool’ image your company/ brand and spark conversations on that brand by being a part of this platform. The companies and brands who use the platform intelligently are sure to score more than others.
