This is an incident that actually happened with one of my dad’s colleagues last year and such was the innovativeness shown in this theft that it still amazes me.
First things first, why does a story of theft find its place on my blog?
1- Because it could be the source inspiration to script writers [whether in advertising or moviemaking]
2. It shows that innovativeness can be used in any stream of work you do
3. Its shows everyone’s getting smarter in this information flooded world, even thieves!
The Incident:
---------------
DAY 1: Like every day, my dad’s colleague [let’s call him Mr. X] walked into his house balcony to collect the day’s newspaper and as he scrolled through the news items, he noticed that his car wasn’t parked in the place he parked it the night before
Confused and scared, he hurriedly made inquiries with the watchman, neighbors and others, who unfortunately didn’t know a thing. He finally then resorted to reporting the theft in the nearest police station who then started their processes into finding the same. So his car was stolen.
He hurried towards his car to inspect it and see if anything was suspicious or missing. To his surprise, he found his car totally intact, nothing missing. He then found a note on the front rear seat that read something like this “We’re sorry for stealing your car but in all honesty had it not been for the utmost urgency we were in, we would have never done it. We deeply regret the inconvenience and misery we caused to you. Nothing said and done can reverse what we’ve put you through to, but just as a goodwill gesture, please find PVR movie tickets for the upcoming Saturday for you and your entire family in the glove box. Again, we’re extremely sorry for this.” [and this note was in English] He checked the glove box and the tickets were actually there.
Mr. X and his family were ecstatic. They couldn’t believe their luck and couldn’t thank God enough. But they were going to be in for a shock soon.
DAY 5: it was a Saturday. Like all middle class Indian families who cannot be more thrilled than to get something free [and never would they let it go waste] Mr. X and his entire family went for the PVR movie show, the tickets of which were left behind by thief in their car. After the movie, as they return home, opened the locks of their home and got in – they got the shock if their lives. The house was completely ransacked! All precious items had all been stolen!
That thief who had stolen their car, left the tickets behind would have actually planned this the whole time. The car theft, the movie tickets were all bait, their real chase was Mr. X‘s house and that they got and at their own set up time!
Now tell me, isn’t this one incredible house theft! Leave comments below, want to read your reactions.
