THE WAY CONTENT IS BEING VIEWED IS FAST CHANGING

I was recently at an Intel press conference where they announced the launch of their 2nd generation processors and while the press con was totally about the launch, some facts shared by the spokesperson (Intel South Asia Managing Director, Sales and Marketing Group, R Sivakumar) couldn’t help me realize at the way the content is being viewed these days. Just to give a few statistics:

Over 12.2bn videos are viewed per month in India – ironically it is estimated that India has over 6bn people
There is a 300% year on year growth in the consumption of videos
It is estimated that 90% of all IP traffic will be video by 2013
There are over 80m internet users in India
About 1mn PCs are shipped everyday

The stats substantiate the new trend on the way content is being viewed in the world and in India as well. Increasingly people are watching movies on laptops, tablets; with 3G and then 4G coming in people will watch live TV on their smarphones. In face another very good example to mark the changing times in terms of the way content is being viewed is Masterchef India. Every episode of Masterchef India went to Youtube 24hours before it went to air on TV and there were millions of views within that 24hours!

This is a trend that’ll matter the most to mobile manufacturers, network service providers, movie makers and TV producers among others and I hope everyone makes note of this trend else they fail. For me, am super excited to be living in this visual age J
