1. Read
books
In our daily routines,
we’ve forgotten to do the most basic things that’s going to get our reading and
writing in-tact. Many clients are still unsatisfied with the writing abilities
of their teams. Reading really helps one construct thoughts in a better manner
and it’s time to revisit this habit.
2. Go
to magazine stand and choose a magazine for you to read, that’s not amongst
those you would otherwise pick up
Knowledge about other
sectors or about diverse matters of lifestyle really helps spark a few ideas and
helps in divergent thinking.
3. Talk
to cabbies
Cab drivers are wonderful
human beings. They know everything about everyone; or atleast their
perspective. At most times their view is so simplified, that you’ll be amazed
how you didn’t see things that way.
4. Do
some primary research
People in the client
servicing business have so much of their clients in them. Depending on the time
a client calls or the tone of the client, the client servicing person will
realize what the conversation is going to be about. But the fact is, how often
you actually put yourself in the client’s shoes. If you’re servicing a consumer
tech company, this year pay a few visits to computer stores or popular markets
like a Nehru Place in Delhi or maybe a Gaffar market in Delhi. See the
challenges that companies actually face.
5. Connect
with the masses
Go to an off-beat
destination, someplace you would otherwise not have chosen. A farm maybe or
some rural area, where you get an exposure about masses. Some time back I was
involved in a debate about – ‘have women become decision-makers when it comes
to making a choice of vehicle to buy’ or ‘most women prefer beer as their
choice of alcohol ’? Now on an average in India, both of these are not true.
But there were people who consider a sample of urban SEC A+ women, to be
representative of entire India; ridiculous! Time to connect to the roots!
6. Visit
a different place of worship
If you’re talking about
building communities, managing them, identifying influencers etc. Religion is one
of the biggest communities in India. This year, try and visit a place of
worship, that’s not from the religion you belong to. Get exposed to this
experience and I promise, if this is your first time doing so, you’ll be over
whelmed by the experience.
Great points...lots to learn from them...specially from the 2nd one..!!
