It's becoming incredibly difficult to stay out of touch

You’re sick of talking to your girlfriend for some reason & give her an excuse, but she catches you red handed commenting on someone’s status update on Facebook!

You’re travelling & suddenly your boss tells you to reply to a client’s mail & you can’t give an excuse because you’re carrying a blackberry!

You may have no internet access, no TV, no newspapers & the most basic phone at your disposal (say a Nokia 1100) but still have a way to know the hottest news in town through Barkha Dutt’s tweets via Twitter Mobile!

There are countries today where laptop sales have already exceeded desktop sales. (TheGlobe&Mail) There are, already, mobile phones in the market that call themselves the mobile computer. (Nokia N900) Today it’s not surprising now to see a person carrying a couple of mobile phones with him/her. While the world was still coming to terms with the concept of a dual sim phone, QiiQ EcoCarrier Inc. came out with the world’s first triple sim phone. And then came social networking sites!

Social networking sites have become like an online database of almost all the computer literate population of the world. You want to find your how well are your school mates doing, how your ex-boyfriend’s looking, what’s new with ex-bosses et al. all can be done here. So much so that, employees better be careful of tweeting or facebooking while on a ‘sick’ leave.

These social media tools have given inspiration to mobile manufacturers to develop a new breed mobile phones aka smart phones. Today mobile phones are designed with the intention of providing convenience to the youth for accessing social networking sites. (Microsoft Kin phones meant for networking) People said that while smart phones have great utility, their cost makes it unattractive. No sooner was this argument put up when Aircel launched its INQ phones starting at Rs 5399. And now recently, news is that Nokia also coming with three new handsets - the Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5, with the aim to put better messaging & social networking tools in the hands of more people around the world, at prices starting from Rs5500.
