As per the last 24 hour news reports, Charlie
Sheen is bidding adieu to Twitter because ‘he
was not getting anything out of it’.

1. Movie/ Product
launch
At times of a movie and/or a product launch,
Twitter is a great platform to make the announcement. In Charlie Sheen’s case, 7
million followers are more than the population of many small towns and for an
entire town to follow you is big! Many film stars in India and abroad are doing
this, their folly being, that they come alive only during that launch and go
silent soon after.
2. Personal PR
Don’t celebs and mini-celebs like the media to
cover them? Of course they do, some hate it, most love it, yet everyone does
it. Then why not use Twitter for the same. With Twitter, you cut the media
middleman and go right to your audience. Another way of seeing it is, with the paucity
of time that most celebs are plagued with, this is a really convenient tool.
3. Defending Speculative
Media Reports
Probably everyday big celebs defend an accusation
reported in the media, and for doing that too, they have to speak with the
media! Twitter is again great for that. Give a 140 character quote be done with
it.
4. Engaging with
fans/customers/ clients
This is the most important reason, among all other
reasons to be on Twitter. Fans/ customer/ clients, are ultimately the reason why
brands exist and one needs to connect and listen to them more often than not.
Some of the most influential people in social media suggest that it is a must
to use social media as a listening tool. You could also proactively do this by
asking for feedback. For e.g. Shahid Kapoor could ask for feedback on newly
released Teri Meri Kahani. The point is people will anyways talk bad about the
movie, but atleast by him asking the question, he’ll get on his audience’s
side!
If Charlie Sheen isn’t seeing much use in
connecting with his followers anymore, I predict that in a while he will
certainly come back, because no celeb or known person can afford to disconnect
himself to what his fans/ followers/ customers have to say.
