Online is the only way small companies can make it big in a more targeted, more fast & cost effective manner

A couple of days ago fashionandyou.com announced that it crossed 1 million 'likes' on Facebook. The brand entered the social media ring in November 2009 with a series of creative initiatives intended to build brand awareness on online media. The brand provides real time customer support on a social media platform; it also gives fans access to exclusive videos, sale previews, curates one-of-a-kind Facebook sales, gaming applications and fun contests. The online retailer has also adopted a high fashion editorial format with gusto by introducing a chic online fashion magazine. With contributions from established bloggers & writers, this first ever digital fashion magazine in India has further engaged members socially. The brand also boasts a blog, which delivers a daily dose of style to readers.

This feat from fashionandyou.com reiterates the fact that online is the only way small companies can make it big, in a more targeted, fast & cost effective manner. Any business makes it big on account of the large database of customers/ clients/ followers it could possibly have. This database ensures that when the brand speaks or does anything, there are loads of people listening.

Numbers on social media maybe quite irrelevant if there isn’t any engagement, but that’s not the case with fashionandyou. Other ecommerce players like Flipkart, Snapdeal and Crazeal are also not far behind in engagement. In fact, Flipkart in my opinion is far above all the companies mentioned in terms of quality of engagement. They strike the right balance between posts that share pieces of public information and connecting it back to Flipkart.

But Facebook is only one part of the online equation. Small businesses and entrepreneurs need to adopt online (having a corporate blog, social media tools, blogger relations etc.) in the best possible way so as to achieve more awareness and targeted reach, in the quickest time possible.
